Rapid Prototype Model Application

Two steps of rapid prototype model
The rapid prototyping model is also known as the prototype model, which is another form of the incremental model; it is to construct a prototype in prior to the development of real systems, gradually complete the development work of the whole system on the basis of this prototype. The first step of rapid prototype model is to construct a rapid prototyping, realizing customers or future users and system interaction, the users or customers evaluate the prototype, and further refine the software needs to be developed. By gradual adjustment of the rapid  prototype model to meet the requirements of customers, developers can determine the real needs of customers; the second step is to develop customer satisfaction software products on the basis of the first step.
Working principle of rapid prototyping model
Rapid prototyping model need to rapidly build a software prototype which can run, in order to understand and clarify the issues, to reach a consensus between developers and users, ultimately develop customer satisfaction software products based on the determined customer needs. Rapid prototyping model allows preliminary but not fully analysis and definition for the demand for software, rapidly design and develop software system prototype, the prototype shows the whole or part of the software functionality and performance to be developed to the users; users test and assess the prototype, giving the specific improvements to enrich refinement software need; developers revise and improve the software accordingly, full implementation and testing of software maintenance will not be carried out until the user is satisfied and approves.
Advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages: to overcome the shortcomings of the waterfall model, reducing development risks due to not clear software demand. This rapid prototyping mold is suitable for software system development which cannot be exactly defined the demand.
Disadvantages: The selected development techniques and tools are not necessarily in line with the mainstream development; quickly build up system structure coupled with the continuous changes may result in poor product quality. The premise of using this model is to have a product prototype for display, so it may limit innovation of developers to some extent.
The use of rapid prototyping model
Because the purpose and ways of using prototypes are different, so we need to adopt a different strategy when selecting the prototype. There is abandon strategy and additional strategies.
1. Abandon strategy is to use the prototype at some stage in the development process, to promote the development results at this phase to be more complete, accurate, consistent and reliable; the prototype will be void after the end of the stage. Explorative and experimental types use this strategy.
2. Additional strategy is to use the prototype in the whole development process, the prototype gradually adds new features and new demand starting from the most basic core, and repeatedly revised repeatedly expands, and finally developed into user satisfaction final system. The evolution type rapid prototyping uses this strategy.
